Catalogue of scams
by Webfusion in Security on February 17th, 2011 Post a commentThe forum at 419legal.org has been a first-point of call for all matters ‘scam’ related since 2003 but now the site that also includes a database of lawyers across 50 states, has decided to catalogue those to create a comprehensive database of the most searched internet scams.
Updated monthly, the database aims to keep visitors aware of new scams and online threats as well as new uses for old ones. Those affected by the scams can then click through to the directory of lawyers and get some professional advice.
Before you seek professional advice however, there is plenty of help already on the site, with thousands of posters to the forum also willing to help. If you want to educate yourself to avoid the risk of being scammed there are also hundreds of variations of the sort of scam emails that are sent to the site owners by visitors in the scam letter archive section of the forum.
The rule of thumb is always ‘if it looks a scam, it probably is’ but while this site won’t win any awards for design, the content is certainly a useful resource to set your mind at rest or find out what you need to do next.
