Does sex sell?
by Webfusion in Domains on August 12th, 2010 Post a commentThe general consensus appears to be it does, but we’d like to know your thoughts as to whether it really does sell and importantly whether we should.
Back in June, internet governors ICANN approved the creation of the .xxx domain name at a conference in Brussels, Belgium. The registry appointed to run the new domain ICM Registry expect the first .xxx domains to go live early in 2011.
One of the ‘selling points’ of ICM’s pitch to ICANN was that it will help clean up the web with adult-content websites becoming immediately identifiable by their .xxx domain tag. Opponents have suggested it might go the other way, simply offering another alternative to sex-related sites who will still look to sign up more popular and universal .com and .net domains.
Here at Webfusion, we like to give our customers choice. Usually that means a wide range of domain names, add-on features, etc, but given the controversial nature of the .xxx domains we think we need your input as to whether we should add the .xxx to our available domains when they are formally launched. We’ve set up a very brief survey and we’d be very grateful for your thoughts and opinions. You can complete the survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FJRC8KS.
Have you completed the survey? Do you think .xxx is a good idea?
